5/13/2010, Beijing, Local newspaper reported that the self developed VLC (visible light communication) system based on LED has been deployed in World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. According to Dr. Duan,jingyuan from Semiconductor Institute of China Science Academy, they VLC system can support 2Mbps bandwidth. Besides network connection, they can also use LED light to control many electrical appliance in the home.

Another technology breakthrough in China Science Academy is that their Physics and Chemistry Institute developed manufacturing technology on PMMA POF fiber. Before this, only Mitsubishi Japan can make this kind of POF. The institute now has 100K meter PMMA POF manufacturing ability. The attenuation of the fiber is 170-200dB/Km.
