Triple-Stone Innovative released software defined P2P optical matrix switch

2024-04-10    Zoye

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence AI, cloud computing and big data, the market's demand for the complex and flexible optical communication network architecture is increasing. Currently, the industry urgently needs a new type of optical network equipment that can significantly enhance the flexibility of the network architecture. Based on this background, Triple-Stone specifically brings an innovative product to seize the the market demand— Software Defined P2P Optical Matrix Switch ( referred to as TSMOS-360D for simplicity).

Key features and advantages of the TSMOS-360D

l  Non-blocking matrix switch

l  P2P port connectivity

l  Port- configurable/Topological structure configurable

l  Alternate fiber port protection

l  User-friendly GUI

Conventional all-optical switches are dual-sided, making connections between a group of committed input ports on one side and a group of output ports on the other. But, this type of product is unable to establish connections between ports on the same side. Furthermore, the number of input and output ports is predetermined during the design phase, which limits the flexibility and use efficiency of optical switches greatly.

TSMOS-360D is a flexible optical switch that incorporates innovative topological structure configurable technology, achieving dynamic adjustment of network architecture based on real-time service requirements. TSMOS-360D enables the on-demand configuration of input and output port quantities, which eliminates inherent port attributes. Through software configuration, it facilitates the free conversion of any port to input or output port, and integrates functionalities such as VOA and low-frequency modulation.

TSMOS-360D has 68 equivalent optical fiber ports (total port count based on customization requirements), which allows any two ports to be interconnected at any given time (P2P). With no hardware defined input or output ports, TSMOS-360D can be configured to any combination of symmetric (N×N) or asymmetric (N×M) switch configurations through the GUI and embedded software developed by Triple-Stone.

Moreover, the 68 ports can be divided into any number of groups through software-defined grouping, with each group containing any variable number of ports. Each group is port-configurable and able to execute different tasks independently. TSMOS-360D provides built-in intelligent alternate fiber port protection as well, which can restore the failed connection caused by a port failure and thus ensure high network service stability.

The combination of software control and peer fiber port connectivity brings flexibility and possibility of optimal solutions for customers. It is a versatile, easy-to-implement and high-performance optical switch which can be used across a range of applications, such as:

l  All-optical peer-to-peer network node (port) exchanges

l  OCS of data centers

l  Building test systems with high flexibility, usability, and reusability in optical switch networks

l  Communication network port-level (routing inclusive) protection, etc

While using TSMOS-360D, customers can pair it with other optical circulators to build an efficient switching network. This network can more effectively utilize switch port resources and system wavelength resources.

By using circulators, bidirectional communication can be achieved with a single wavelength on a single optical fiber. On the one hand, compared with traditional single-fiber and dual-wavelength bidirectional communication systems, the wavelength utilization is shortened twice. On the other hand, compared with single-wavelength and dual-fiber bidirectional communication systems, the fiber utilization is reduced.

More importantly, the single-fiber, single-wavelength bidirectional communication system can save half of the port resources of the optical switch, without causing the synchronization issues in signal transmission during exchanges.

Leveraging proprietary intellectual property and patented technology, Triple-Stone introduced the Software-Defined P2P All-Optical Matrix Switch in OFC 2024, aiming to contribute to the foundational capability construction of ML or AI.
